Latest news: my new novel, Holy Blood, has just been published by The History Press
Hello! I'm Kim Fleet and I'm an author and writing coach based in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire. Basically, I write books, and I help other people to write books, too.
It's said everyone has a book in them, and if you've been wondering if a book would help to promote you and your business, but are not sure how to get started, how long it'll take, or what your publishing options are, then check out my Boost Your Business with a Book page.
Perhaps you've been struggling with writer's block, perfectionism or procrastination? Has this been going on for weeks, or even months? Then check out Help for Writers.
I have an eclectic range of interests, which have inevitably led to a range of unusual experiences, which have all influenced and informed my own writing. I lived and worked with Aboriginal people in Australia for five years, and turned these experiences into my first two novels, Sacred Site and Featherfoot - both of them murder mysteries set in the Australian outback.
More recently I've turned to writing about crime closer to home, with my time-slip crime series set in Cheltenham, featuring private detective Eden Grey. The first, Paternoster, was published in 2015 by the History Press. Paternoster is a gritty crime thriller that explores the sleazy underbelly of Regency Cheltenham. Thought Cheltenham was all elegant Regency architecture? Think again! The second in the Eden Grey series, Holy Blood, explores Elizabethan espionage and trade in holy relics. It will be published by the History Press in April 2017.
I also write short stories - both literary for competitions and anthologies, and for women's magazines. And I write articles on family history and social history topics. So it's quite a mix! One day I can be writing a gentle, sweet romance for the women's magazines, the next I'm plotting a gritty murder, the next I'm researching and writing a blog post for a client. I love the variety and the opportunity to write in so many different styles and voices. You can find out more at the 'What I'm Writing' page.
I support a number of charities and sponsor a guide dog. You can read more about the charities I support, my hobbies and how I came to be a writer, at the 'About Kim' page.
Finally, check out my blog - about Cheltenham, writing the Eden Grey mysteries, crime, and the writing life. Enjoy!
